City of Cincinnati and Groundwork Ohio River Valley Awarded National Climate Grants
The City of Cincinnati and Groundwork Ohio River Valley (Groundwork) are collaborating on national projects with local scope. The City of Cincinnati Office of Environment and Sustainability (OES) received a $10,000 one-year grant from the National League of Cities 2020 Leadership in Community Resilience Program to strengthen the equity and inclusion component of the Green Cincinnati Plan. Groundwork received a $50,000 Climate Safe Neighborhoods grant from The Kresge Foundation and The JPB Foundation to work with vulnerable communities to develop mitigation measures for extreme heat, flooding, and air pollution. Groundwork and OES are working together to expand the impact of both projects.

Deer Study with Great Parks of Hamilton County
Great Parks of Hamilton County contracted the Green Corps to build deer exclosures at two Great Parks: Embshoff Woods and Triple Creek. Throughout the year, the Green Corps and the Green Team will assist in the data collection of these sites.
Anthony in Tuskegee
In early February, Green Corps’ Anthony, along with other young adults from Groundwork Trusts all over the nation, travelled to Tuskegee, Alabama to develop a variety of renovation skills while restoring the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site.
Greening Green Township
The crew, under the expertise of Micah, used a fecon attachment to reduce swaths of honeysuckle to wood chips. After the initial removal process, the Green Corps spread a cover crop then reintroduced a variety of native seeds.
Diamond Oaks Career Exploration
In partnership with Turner Farms, one of the other local non-profits using the greenhouse space, Groundwork is able to engage with the amazing and dynamic CareerX program. Every Tuesday and Thursday the group of ten students come to the greenhouse to learn about harvesting native seeds, preparing soil mixes, starting annual garden seeds, and general greenhouse maintenance.
