Programs
Explore the impactful programs at Groundwork Ohio River Valley, where our focus is on building climate-safe neighborhoods and promoting environmental conservation. As part of our commitment, we're proud to participate in the Climate Safe Neighborhoods (CSN) initiative, which identifies communities disproportionately affected by climate change due to historical injustices and engages resident leaders to foster resilience. Through our Climate Conservation Corps, including the Green Workforce, Green Team, and Green Corps, we empower youth and young adults with hands-on work experience like invasive species removal and native plant propagation. Together, we're driving positive change for our communities and our planet.
American Climate Corps: Young-Adult
The Green Corps serves as an innovative force in green workforce development for young adults across Cincinnati. Collaborating with a diverse range of partners, they execute a variety of projects aimed at environmental conservation and sustainability. From invasive species removal to native plant propagation and the implementation of green infrastructure, the Green Corps tackles a wide spectrum of initiatives to preserve local ecosystems and enhance community resilience. Through hands-on participation in these projects, young adults not only acquire valuable skills but also contribute to the well-being and sustainability of their neighborhoods and the broader Cincinnati area.
Climate Conservation Corps: Green Team
Our Green Team develops high school students for job readiness in the green industry through training in improving and maintaining trails, parks, and community spaces in the city. High school students cultivate job skills and a better understanding of their environment.
Climate Safe Neighborhoods
Climate Safe Neighborhoods (CSN) is a national effort through Groundwork USA to identify neighborhoods that are more vulnerable to the effects of climate change because of racial and social injustices, engage frontline resident leaders and partners, and ignite action toward climate resilience. In Cincinnati, Groundwork, Green Umbrella and the city's Office of Environment and Sustainability explore the relationship between historically race-based housing segregation and the current and predicted impacts of climate change. Effective community engagement is important for creating better policies and programs, addressing inequality, and building resilient communities.
